Full Body Rash - Oh My!
When you’re body is speaking to you - you listen.
Let's talk about rashes!
The other day I woke up with full body healing.
I wasn't worried….there was no panic, just curiosity - "well isn't that interesting?"
FULL BODY RASH - Full Body Healing!
We had just moved into a new place, most would wake up and start asking, is it mold? Something in the house? Something I ate? Something I came in contact with? Clothing? Lotion? Soap?
Me - my first question is always:
What is my body responding to?
The last two weeks an unplanned and unexpected decision was made to come back to Canada. This created a conflict shock (anything unexpected, is a conflict in our mind and physical body).
Our home was rented out. We had no vehicles to come home to. And not really a clear plan of what we were going to do, just that we had to come back.
We stayed at my parents house until we found a place to move into.
We moved into the apartment and I began to organize and put everything away. This was now our temporary home and I wanted it to feel comfortable.
As soon as we were settled in, everything was in it's place.
I began to feel itchy… first my elbows, then my eyelids….
When I woke up the next morning…my eyelids were swollen, itchy, palm of hands red, hot, itchy, ears red and itchy, knees, top of feet, inner thigh…raised rash, like hives….
My whole body was responding.
From a biological lens, the skin is deeply connected to experiences of separation, connection, and our sense of belonging or “place.” During the initial stress phase, before any symptoms appear, the body is in an active adaptation state. Blood flow to the skin is reduced, and the tissue can become more numb, dry, or less sensitive. Usually we don't notice this phase, because the body is focused on navigating the unexpected situation, in my case, the sudden move, the uncertainty, the feeling of being displaced and not fully settled.
Even when we feel like we’re handling things well consciously, the body still registers what was unexpected or unresolved. And once that situation shifts, once there’s a sense of safety, stability, or resolution, the body moves into repair.
That’s when symptoms show up.
This is where you lean into the discomfort.
No fear. No panic.
(Slight annoyance maybe lol).
The redness, heat, swelling, and itching are all part of the healing phase. Blood flow increases again, fluid moves into the tissue, and the skin begins restoring itself. Nerve endings that were less sensitive become active again, which is why it can feel so intense, itchy, or uncomfortable. What was once “numb” becomes hypersensitive. This isn’t the body breaking down, it’s active repair.
This is where you can ask, "What an interesting response body. What are you trying to tell me?"
The body never lies. Symptoms never lie. Even if the brain thinks differently - your body will always tell you how your subconscious perceived the situation.
With skin it's usually always a separation conflict.
Wanting to or NOT wanting to separate from something.
I wanted us to have our own space.
Get settled. Start routines and make it home.
When the experience involves your overall environment, like moving, displacement, or not feeling fully at home, the response can show up more broadly, even full body.
The specific areas can reflect different aspects of how the body feels in that moment: the hands (interaction, control), the face or eyes (identity, being seen), inner areas (vulnerability), joints (movement and direction). It’s not random it's all by design.
Once we settled in… my body felt safe and went into healing.
And now I trust and allow the process to unfold without fear.
Thank you body for always healing and adapting to my perceived world around me.
I share because when you understand that the body never lies, will always tell the truth, is always speaking to us…. you don’t fight against it… you allow it…you lean in and surrender - you trust.
It’s healing and adapting and responding to everything around you.
It’s perfect (and uncomfortable) but perfect. Trust, surrender, allow.
When we view all symptoms this way we take back our power.
Hope this helps to bring more confidence and calm when symptoms appear either with your or your child. (this includes eczema and other skin conditions as well - and why they can be chronic).
